God is good, but never try setting up a blog!

If God sends you down a stony path,
May He give you strong shoes.

May you get all your wishes but one
So you always have something to strive for.

  1. Thanks be to God for the life and work of his servant Joseph Ratzinger.
Teach us all, O Lord, to be "das Salz der Erde".

  2. Sad news indeed. May Pope Benedict gaze this day upon God, and may his memory be eternal.

O God of spirits and of all flesh, Who hast trampled down death and overthrown the Devil, and given life to Thy world, do Thou, the same Lord, give rest to the souls of Thy departed servants in a place of brightness, a place of refreshment, a place of repose, where all sickness, sighing, and sorrow have fled away. Pardon every transgression which they have committed, whether by word or deed or thought. For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind; because there is no man who lives yet does not sin, for Thou only art without sin, Thy righteousness is to all eternity, and Thy word is truth.

For Thou are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Thy servants who have fallen asleep, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever unto ages of ages. Amen.

    1. Happy New Year ye miserable sinners. And to Carl in about six hours' time. Always that little bit behind the rest of us.

And congratulations to Brian May, knighted in the New Year's Honours for services to big perms.

  5. I'm worried about Happy Jack (again). He's been silent all day, today of all days. I sent him an email this afternoon but he hasn't replied yet.

    1. Probably contemplating setting up a new blog. 'Pope Ratzinger' to replace Archbishop Cranmer.

    2. Jack was under instructions from Mrs Jack ("she who must be obeyed") to concentrate on the grandchildren in the afternoon and he went to Mass in the evening.
