Euro 2024 Tournament - Open Article

 Scotland

Scotland finished exactly where they deserved in group A - at the bottom.

Indeed, not only did Scotland fail to exceed their normal levels, they did the opposite and under-performed.

Three shots on target in the entire tournament? With just 17 shots of any description across all three matches?

There was weeping and gnashing of teeth in the streets of Kirkcudbright.

England

Meantime. England are through to the knockout stages with a game to spare.

Happy Jack will be removing his England flag from the front of the house this evening with all the disgruntled Jocks likely to be roaming the streets supporting Slovenia.

  1. Let me check if I have this right: football is our 'national game', but Wales didn't qualify, Scotland 'underperformed' and got kicked out, and England struggled to a 'thrilling' 0-0 draw against a team that's only ever qualified for an international tournament four times?

  2. You omitted Northern Ireland. "Nation" being the constitutive countries forming the United Kingdom.

England are pacing themselves for the knockout stages.

    1. They ought to win 12-0 then, with that amount of saving themselves up... 😂

  3. I haven’t been following the Euros so far, there are too many countries to keep track of, but now that the knockout rounds are about to begin I’ll make an effort to pay more attention. I see that England are due to play on Sunday but we don’t yet know who their opponents will be, is that right? When will we know?

    1. Yes, 5pm on Sunday. We will know tonight who England will play. It's looking like it will be Holland.

    2. The clockwork orange! That's going to be tough, if they're up to their usual standard this year.

    3. We now know it's to be Slovakia! Should be a stroll in the park.

When England win, they'll then face either Italy or Switzerland in the semi-final.

    4. Should be a stroll in the park.

Just like it was against Slovenia...

    1. Starting in a few minutes, Switzerland v Italy.
And then, later this evening, Argentina v Peru in the Copa America.

    2. Switzerland beat Italy 2-0. I was never expecting a result like that. Are Italy a team in decline? Are Switzerland a stronger team than I thought? Maybe I'm just out of touch with recent developments in Europe ...

    3. Italy are a young team in development. Even so, it was a surprising result. Switzerland are a good team and England will play them if they beat Slovakia.

    4. The second goal looked offside to me ⚽️

    5. Could you explain the offside rule?

    6. Nobody can explain the offside rule.

  5. Hello Jack. Satisfied with the result?

So England won. Just means that the torture will go on for longer.

    I hate football 😭

    1. I've always thought that football is to men what a full moon is to werewolves: they suddenly start acting weird and making strange noises until it's over.

I'm glad to know at least one man who's immune!

Well actually genetically I'm much more complicated than that. I have French (Hugenout), Norman, English, Scottish and Irish in my make up.

      No Japanese however.

    4. What's interesting is the recent phenomena of women football fans behaving in loutish ways like men.

    5. @ Clive No Japanese however. - as I said, nobody's perfect 😊

@ Jack - that's modern feminism for you; it saw the worst of male behaviour and decided that's how women should behave. Same with work habits, binge drinking, promiscuity. It's a race to the gutter.

Obviously, as a slightly tomboyish young girl, I, too dreamed of scoring the winning goal at Wimbledon, but I grew out of it.
